Ddung's Bob Burger ~ Robinson's Antipolo

I was in the mood for something different and
out of my comfort zone.
With the kids left back home, I thought now is the time, me and my husband can have something without "fried chicken, pizza or spaghetti in the menu" (you know, what I mean right?).

We have been passing by a Korean restaurant in Robinson's Antipolo named "Ddung's Bob Burger" and I think it was high time we give it try.

There were not much people inside when we came in, so this made me a bit (ok more than a bit) worried... (does no eating guests mean "so-so" food?).

The staff were very attentive and polite.
I think our wide eyed-blank (almost like lost) facial expression was a real give-in.   They really took time to explain their menu and even recommended their best sellers.

We were served "house tea" while waiting for our order

For starters, we ordered seaweed spring rolls (with japchae fillings)

~ (Costs P100+). It was surprisingly delicious. I liked it better dipped into the spicy red sauce it came with.

And one of DDung's Hansang set meals, which was good for 2 ~ (Costs P500.00).

I've read after that "Hansang" is a Korean word which is loosely translated to "A table full of food".

Our order is spot on delicious
(not to mention colorful and looks really appetizing).  Wrapping the meat inside the leaf somehow enhances the flavor of the meat.  I really liked it.

Our order came with lemonade

...and side dishes, kimchi and (slightly) spicy anchovies.

I am not a "kimchi" kind of gal, but the spicy anchovies, I can take home.

I think price is affordable for the quality of food, generous servings and really amiable crew you get.

MamaSpeaks gives it a two thumbs up!

Ddung's is located at the 2nd floor Alfresco Wing of Robinson's Antipolo.   If you happen to pass by the area, do give this restaurant a try.

Tiolo Antipolo ~ Barbeque, Steakhouse and More

My hubby and I are always on the hunt for things to do, places to go and eat.

During our last Antipolo day trip (Antipolo is just minutes away from where we leave) we came across "Tiolo".

Tiolo is a quaint restaurant along Antipolo's Circumferential Road, right across Unciano Medical Center.

A little hungry(okay a bit more than just little) we seated and started ordering food.
The place seats about 20pax.  We were lucky we came on a weekday, otherwise it must have been difficult to be seated.

My husband ordered T-Bone Steak  (P200).  Serving was huge, but a bit dry and rubbery. He likes his steak tender and juicy.  However, for the price of P200, I don't think he is really complaining.

Meanwhile, I ordered Cordon Bleu (P100).

This cordon bleu is really cheesy... I really liked it!

Lumpiang Ubod (P55) is very good too.
It was flavorful and the ingredients fresh.

Smoothies (P100+) was just okay.
I would have wanted mine frothy.

Tiolo is an overall good place for a quick bite after a visit to the Antipolo Cathedral.   It is a bit far off from the church, hence it is not as crowded.

Food is a bit of hit and miss.  I personally loved my orders, but my husband was not as keen with his.  No worries though, since Tiolo has 3 page full of dishes.

Here is their menu:

2145 Circumferential Rd. Brgy. San Roque Antipolo City
Antipolo, Philippines.

A Taste of Marison's ~ Restaurant Review

I was out gallivanting with my husband at Robinson's Mall in Antipolo when hunger striked.   We saw this fairly new restaurant,
Marison's at the malls Al Fresco area and decided to give it a try.

They offer traditional Filipino Cuisine with a twist. They have reinvented our all too common Filipino dishes and made them special.

We ordered

Pinakbet using bagoong balayan (P220).
I thought I ordered healthy, until I saw the lechon kawali (lol).

Deep fried "kesong puti" with pineapple sambal dip (P295)

Empanada with papaya and pork fillings (P255)

VERDICT:
  • I love the modern twist Marison did to their menu. The changes were not over the top, so the original flavor is still there, but better.
  • An order is good for 2-3 pax, not bad for an average P300 per dish.
  • Staff were fine, but would really need to be more attentive, we were there on a busy day, so that is forgiven,
  • It was just me and hubby that day, so we were not able to order to much.  I would love to return with my family and order their house specialties balut tempura, tuna shanghai, chicken binakol and pasta Chinoy.

The Marison's branch we have visited is located at UG Robinson's Mall Antipolo, Sumulong Higway Antipolo City.

I am really so excited about this new coffee shop at the Robinson's Mall Antipolo~ Costa Coffee

It is hard to find real coffee shops around and findings new ones, puts a smile on my face (#confessionofacoffeeaddict).

Costa Coffee offers some real kick @ss coffee drinks (oh, the desserts were equally as good)...

My inquisitive nature led me to the internet and I was really impressed to learn that Costa Coffee  has been pouring coffee
since1971, when they first opened doors in London.

My perfect cup of Costa Coffee (#CoffeePaMore)!

Minced Manila, Antipolo: Restaurant Review

Where to go for a birthday breakfast?

My itinerary for the day brought me to this quaint restaurant atop the hills of Antipolo.  Minced Manila is just a kilometer away the Antipolo Cathedral, which made it a perfect breakfast stop-over after mass.

I first read of Minced Manila from a friend blogger of Memet Diaries, who rated Minced Manila as a worthy visit

We ordered from their breakfast menu (available from 7am - 10am only). The breakfast menu is served with garlic rice, two eggs and brewed all you can drink coffee.

My husband got Longganisa Lucban.
The longganisa smells so good half ended on my plate :P

Longganisa Lucban set cost P200.

I love their garlic rice... and their sunny side-up eggs were perfect.  The "atsara" with the longganisa was spot-on.

I got the Hungarian Sausage, which I of course had to share with my husband, after eating most of his longganisa.

Hungarian Sausage set cost P180.

Coffee was very strong, which was how we liked it.  "We were happy to hear that coffee was refillable, but one cup was all we needed to keep us up the entire day". You won't be needing a refill :P

Minced Manila is more than just a breakfast place, they also boast a full lunch and dinner menu, that I am sure are also MUST TRY.

VERDICT
  • Minced Manila is a wonderful find, serving delectable breakfast at really reasonable price. I would definitely come back to try their lunch and dinner menu.
  • Staff are attentive and amiable.
  • Secured location and ample parking a plus.

Minced Manila is located at the
2nd floor of EM Gems Building  L. Sumulong Circumferential Road Antipolo

Eggs for Breakfast Antipolo: Review

My husband loves eggs for breakfast, so when I read about this dainty restaurant ~ I only had to ask him once and we were soon on our way to Eggs for Breakfast (Restaurant).

The restaurant is located inside a compound, about 300meter off the main highway.

Eggs for Breakfast has huge grounds for running about.  It is clean and with a countryside vibe. I picture it would be perfect for an intimate garden wedding.

A mini pond filled with koi fishes welcomes visitors and guests.

The place is air-conditioned, well lighted.
It is however a bit small with limited.  If you intend to come on a weekend, they do take in reservations ~ and I suggest you do (to avoid disappointments).

Interiors and décors is rustic and exudes a country home appeal.

Service was surprisingly fast.  Attendants were amiable and well versed of the house specials.

We ordered:

Vigan Longganiza (P275) served with eggs, tomatoes and rice.

Bacon-Fried Eggs (P220) served with eggs and a choice of roasted potatoes or garlic rice.

We were hungry so my husband got an extra order of  Classic Omelette with Tomatoes (P65).

We both had coffee (P95) to finish our meal.

VERDICT
  • Eggs for Breakfast sells ambience.  It was a perfect setting for cup of nicely brewed coffee and hefty breakfast.
  • Food was just okay for me and nothing out of the ordinary.  It was also on the expensive side at P200+ and still exclusive of coffee (which was another P95). It would have been nice if the can have coffee or tea options included in their meals already. My husband though can't stop raving about his Vigan Longganiza.
  • Staff are very accommodating and service was very efficient.

Overall, Eggs for Breakfast is worth a try. It levels up ones dining experience by offering good food in a really beautiful surrounding so near the Metro.  If you are heading to Antipolo Cathedral via Sumulong Highway, I suggest you drop by.

Eggs For Breakfast Cafe is located at Velada Estate, 21 Don Juan Street, Villa Cecilia Subdivision, Mambugan, Lower Antipolo City

For reservations and inquiries, you may call 213-2434 or visit Eggs for Breakast facebook page at www.facebook.com/EggsforBreakfast.

Suman Festival at SM City Masinag

Do you love "native kakanin" as much as I do?

Well then feast your eyes on this 350 meters long Suman Sa Ibos.

Yes, you read it right, this string of Antipolo's most popular pasalubong, "Suman sa Ibos" is really 350 meters long. It took 100 kilos of sticky rice to produce this 2500 pieces of individually wrapped Suman sa Ibos.

SM City Masinag literally transformed into a  Suman Haven.

This  latest  partership program between the City Government of Antipolo and  SM City Masinag is aptly named "Suman Festival"

The Suman Festival to kickstart the month-long Antipolo Maytime ~ SUMAKAH (which is actually an acronym for Antipolo's finest products: Suman, Mangga and Kasoy and the Hamaka) Festival.

With Antipolo City,  Vice Governor Frisco San Juan Jr. and Board Member Enrico De Guzman, who were obviously enjoying their share of the Longest Suman sa Ibos.

The month of May has always been special to the hearts of the locals and tourists of the City of Antipolo as it celebrates a month long fiesta in commemoration to the centuries old tradition of Filipinos' pilgrimage to the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage.

Approximately 12,000 bites of the Suman Sa Ibos centerpiece were shared by excited mall shoppers, whose kakanin experience became truly unique with a wide selection of dips and sauces that pair well with their favorite suman.

Along with the launch of the Suman Sa Ibos centerpiece is a culinary contest modernizing the traditional taste and presentation of Antipolo's popular delicacy. Selected Antipolenos vie for the title in making the Most Innovative Suman in the City.

Everything is delicious.  My personal favorite is the Manggo flavored Suman sa Ibos, although I still prefer the classic recipe.

The Suman Festival at SM City Masinag, which hopefully will become a traditional event, was indeed a moment of celebration of Antipolo's rich heritage and culinary background.
